We began to feel good about ourselves when someone can come along and speak kind words to encourage us when we experience difficult times in our lives. When we mess up and we’re told to repent of our sins and turn from wickedness, sometimes we may not want to hear that and we say “only God can judge me”. God’s Word doesn’t just speak of commands that will make us feel good, but commands us to seek correction when we do wrong and to obey who He is.
Beware of those who bring you only “feel good” messages that please your flesh but doesn’t convict your spirit to seek correction of your wrongdoing. When the messenger apologizes instead of rebuking, there is a serious problem. We are quick to say we want the truth, but we get angry when we don’t hear what pleases us. There’s plenty of “truth” floating around, but the ULTIMATE TRUTH comes solely from The Word of God. The only way to know God’s Truth is by studying and meditating on His Word.
I speak of this because there may be someone who may not be hearing God’s Truth. Every season is not a season of break throughs and blessings of material gain. When you only follow Christ for what you can get from Him, you are far away from knowing who He really is. When you’re not doing what God commands, you can expect dry seasons, consequences of your bad actions, loss, etc. Like I have had to be humbled and confess/repent of my sins, I encourage you to do the same. We should be coming to Christ daily in prayer and build our relationship with Him. God wants our whole heart, not just when we need Him to do something for us.
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.” Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 NIV
